She has very pale skin, large light blue eyes which can turn orange while gaining a triskele (though initially it only was her right eye), and long silver hair reaching her waist. One of my favorite sitcoms growing up was Gilligan’s Island.Elizabeth is a beautiful young woman with a slender yet curvaceous physique, a big bust and regular height. ![]() We watched that show and its reruns so many times, my brother and I had a contest to see who could guess what the episode was about. ![]() Often, we would correctly guess while the opening credits were still rolling. This week is the 50th anniversary of the first episode of Gilligan’s Island (September 26, 1964). Earlier I heard a radio DJ make a comment about the origin of the show that fascinated me. The Skipper – Anger or wrath (he always hit Gilligan on every show) Lovey Howell – Gluttony (she was always eating) Ginger – Lust (she always wears skimpy clothes & obsessed with her looks) Thurston Howell III – Greed (no explanation needed if you’ve watched the show) The Professor – Pride (he comes across as a know-it-all) So for your reflection, let me share with you the comparison… He said that according to the show’s producer, Sherwood Schwartz in his book Inside Gilligan’s Island, the seven lovable castaways on Gilligan’s Island were modeled after the seven deadly sins. Some have even speculated that the island was a ‘type’ of Hell. Nobody on the island wants to be there, yet none are able to leave. Gilligan (who always wore red!!!!!) is the one who put them there and did everything he could to ensure they stayed there making Gilligan “Satan.” Remember, it’s called his island. Just something to think about the next time you’re watching the reruns. But it is true that ‘sin will take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay and cost you more than you want to pay.Sherwood Charles Schwartz ( / ʃ w ɔːr t s/ Novem– July 12, 2011) was an American television screenwriter and producer. He worked on radio shows in the 1940s, but he now is best known for creating the 1960s television series Gilligan's Island on CBS and The Brady Bunch on ABC. On March 7, 2008, Schwartz, at the time still active in his 90s, was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. That same year, Schwartz was also inducted into the Television Hall of Fame. Schwartz was born in Passaic, New Jersey, to a Jewish family. His parents were Herman and Rose Schwartz. He was a younger brother of writer Al Schwartz. His younger brother, Elroy Schwartz (1923-2013), a comedy writer, became a principal screenwriter for Gilligan's Island and other series. Sherwood Schwartz is the uncle of Douglas Schwartz (who created the Baywatch TV series), Bruce Schwartz and Judithe Randall. Schwartz had hoped to become a doctor, but found that he was unable to be admitted to medical school at that time, due to a quota limiting the number of Jewish students. He went on to write for Ozzie Nelson's The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet and other radio shows. ![]() Schwartz served in the United States Army for over four years. While serving, he was a writer on the Armed Forces Radio Network before he got his break in television. From 1956 to 1962, Schwartz was head writer for The Red Skelton Show, for which he won an Emmy Award in 1961. He went on to create and produce Gilligan's Island and The Brady Bunch. He wrote the theme song for three of his shows: Gilligan's Island (co-wrote), It's About Time, and The Brady Bunch. Syndication turned his two major successes into TV institutions with cultural relevance. ![]() He made them icons and as a result became a television icon himself.
